Castle Complex Progress Report Nov. 27

Stakeholders are invited to set aside an evening next week to talk about the future of public school education in the Castle Complex schools and what’s already in place to help students succeed.

The educational summit is set for 5:30 to 8 p.m. Nov. 27 at King Intermediate School cafeteria, where officials will share how the complex currently ranks in achieving No Child Left Behind requirements. Principals also will report on individual school progress, and students from Castle and King are invited to join their own session on the Castle Complex Redesign Initiative and discuss how they can impact it.

The Redesign, which was mandated by lagging performance scores for the complex, has been developed over the past 10 months and is “transitioning to implementation,” according to the DOE. A new growth model is in the works that will measure student and school growth and achievement, but it needs the support and participation of parents, students, faculty, staff, administrators and community members to make it work.

The complex of schools that feed into Castle High are King Intermediate, Ahuimanu, Heeia, Kahaluu, Kaneohe, Kapunahala, Ben Parker, Puohala, Waiahole elementary and Hakipuu Learning Center (a public charter school).

Light refreshments will be provided to summit participants.
