HECO Gives Out Arbor Day Trees On Saturday
Arbor Day is back, and Hawaiian Electric Co. is ready with 2,700 trees to give away at six Oahu locations, starting at 7 a.m. Saturday – one plant per family while supplies last.
In Windward Oahu, certified arborists and volunteers will assist in picking the best plant for residents’ needs, as well as share tips on their care and how to keep their branches off of overhead power lines. The nearest Arbor Day Hawaii giveaway site is the HECO Koolau Base Yard, 1387 Ulupii St. in Maunawili.
The event encourages citizens across the nation to plant, nurture and celebrate trees, and HECO will add three new varieties to this year’s stock of native trees and shrubs: the Aimee Yoshioka gardenia, the munroidendron and the red sealing wax palm.
