Enjoy A Peaceful Day In The Urban Garden
To celebrate United Nations Peace Day Sunday, the local collective Voyage of Aloha will host a community gathering at UH Urban Gardens in Pearl City.
The garden will be open from 1 to 5 p.m., with a formal ceremony taking place from 3 to 4 p.m.
The event will include a dedication of the Peace Garden Walkway, a presentation of the Distinguished Peacemaker Award, a peace tree planting, live entertainment, food and educational activities.
Local author and teacher Maya Soetoro-Ng, the sister of President Obama, will be a guest speaker.
All attendees are encouraged to bring a small handful of earth, a seed or a small stone from the land near their home to place in the earth near a Bodhi Tree, which is being planted at the site during the event.
Free ticket reservations are available at peacegarden.eventbrite.com.
Donations also are being accepted in support of the Hawaii Peace Gardens.
