Community Service Group Welcomes Newly Elected Officers
The women’s club with the impressive name — Soroptimist International of Central Oahu — recently elected new officers to get set for a busy year of community service.
Founded 25 years ago, the local chapter aims “to enrich the lives of women and girls internationally and locally,” according to member Jackie Pactol. They give out citizenship and other youth awards, have mentored DARE program’s Lei Ilima Girls Club, and supplied Leeward Abuse Shelter with personal items and furnishings for years.
In the past two years, Pactol said, members have encouraged girls at the Bobby Benson Center, a residential substance abuse treatment center on the North Shore, to give to others in need. For example, the girls made lap blankets for clients at the Leeward Abuse Shelter with materials furnished by the club.
New officers are president Leana Soto, president-elect Rene Mansho, secretary Kathy Ishimoto, treasurer Susan Lau and directors Angie Bugarin, Judy Fomin, Ann Freed and Lorraine Fukumae.
The club meets at 6 p.m. on the first Thursday of each month at Ruby Tuesday in Mililani.
