cardboard cutout of Kailua resident Robin Makapagal made it all the way to this year’s Super Bowl LV,
perched right in a seat at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa Bay during the big game. Due to pandemic considerations, only a
limited amount of spectators were able to attend in person. However, a large cutout de- picting the smiling Makapagal did make it to the stadium.
“I went to the Super Bowl for the first time in my life,” Makapagal jokes about her one-dimensional stand-in.
Emblazoned on her cutout’s shirt were the words Crucial Catch, Intercept Cancer. The NFL partners with American Cancer Society to fight the disease through early detection and risk reduction, and again, they reached out this year to those affected by it.
Cancer survivor Makapagal has been an active participant in ACS Relay for Life Kamehameha ʻOhana community-based fundraising events since 2008 when she joined as a caregiver, and later registered as
